FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A series of Boundless Connections Innovation Showcase events is expected to kick off in Olean in March 2019 and will swoop through the nation over the next 2 years visiting 16 cities over the next 24 months.

Olean, NY, February 2, 2019 (PR-US):  – Boundless Connections is organizing its inaugural Innovation Showcase event in Olean, NY.  We are putting kids in middle and high school on stage (and live stream) to share their ideas on how to make the world a better place. This is a fundraiser for TECH Unleashed and the Olean Young Entrepreneurship Academy. The goal of this event is to put the next generation in the spotlight, give the world a glimpse of the future and support a couple of established local youth programs.

It all starts with a postcard inviting kids to register online for the event and to figure out the following: What is the idea? What does it fix? What kind of tech would be helpful? What kind of support does it need to happen?

They will attend a day long workshop to prep for their showcase presentation at the Boundless Connections TECHNOLOGY Center, complete with glamour shots and social media hashtags counting down to showtime. This event has 2 objectives, to highlight the future – right in our backyards and to retain local talent. The showcase audience includes family members, local and national businesses and organizations, political leaders and the red carpet press area. The live stream will reach an audience far beyond the local community.

So how can you get involved?

  • Press: be a part of the Innovation Showcase and the red-carpet area and help put the youth in the spotlight. We look forward to partnering with local and national press to give these kids the attention and media support they deserve.
  • Sponsorship opportunities: from local businesses to nationwide sponsors – there is a level for everyone to help make the Innovation Showcase events something to remember!
  • Vendors and partnerships: Every event will highlight local and national innovating vendors.

Cities on the roadmap: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Fort Lauderdale, Huston, New York City, Olean, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Rochester, Pittsburgh, San Diego, San Jose, and Seattle.

Olean Local’s Music App is Top Ten in NYU Contest

June 18, 2018 by Hans Rasschaert Leave a Comment

Rajiv Thandla used to hang out with Tech Unleashed at Boundless Connections as one of his many interests through high school. Recently he developed an idea for an app that will change how we listen to music in groups.

His app idea made it to the top 10 ideas out of 200 submissions at the NYU Stern School of Business App Contest! Congratulations, Rajiv!

His app “Pas the AUX” provides socially collaborative playlists in which users can dynamically add songs to a playlist and vote for song order.

Nowadays in social settings, playing music is like social hot potato – no one wants to get stuck being the one that has to choose all the music, but everyone has their own opinion on what they want to hear. Currently we swap the device connected to the speakers manually, or verbally take suggestions in an inefficient way. And so Rajiv came up with an idea for an app that will make this a lot more effective and fun!

A rocket scientist from Olean?

June 18, 2018 by Hans Rasschaert 1 Comment

At Olean High School, Saad Mirza started an aerospace club, leading a team of 40 students every year. They built and launched high altitude balloon payloads to 120,000 feet, as well as rockets. After graduation Saad was accepted into Princeton where he became the project manager of a project called “SpaceShot”.

During the past school year they launched rockets into outer space and they didn’t just launch, they shattered records:

  • First student-built rocket to reach the Karman Line, the internationally recognized boundary of outer space (100 km, 62 miles, altitude)
  • Smallest rocket by vehicle mass to ever reach outer space (Previous recordholder: Super Loki Robin Dart)
  • Rocket with least propellant mass to ever reach outer space (Previous recordholder: Super Loki Robin Dart)
  • Cheapest rocket to ever reach outer space (adjusted for inflation)
  • Fastest speed ever achieved at Spaceport America
  • Highest altitude ever achieved at Spaceport America

Way to go, Saad!

Here is the original post at Princeton, where you can read more about it:
